April 4, 2016- Professor Richard Abel wrote to the New York Times to draw attention to what he believes to be a misrepresentation of the relationship between the increased enrollment in law school by women and a 1968 vote to remove the draft exemption for law school students as described in the article "Because of Sex," by Gillian Thomas published on March 13, 2016.
“The number of women law students increased significantly during World War II, and their proportion rose to 22 percent as they replaced men because of the draft,” Abel writes. “The number of women law students did start to increase in 1968, but so did the number of men.”
The comment was published in The New York Times on April 3, 2016.
