Brad Sears of Williams Institute Quoted in New York Times on Lawsuit Against Justice Department

May 26, 2016 – Brad Sears, assistant dean of Programs and Centers and executive director of the Williams Institute, was quoted in a New York Times article discussing numerous historical cases in which courts have expanded interpretations of laws to define transgender discrimination as “sex discrimination.”  The article also comments on a recent lawsuit from the governor of North Carolina against the Justice Department arguing that sex means biological sex and nothing more.

“This is not new news,” said Professor Sears. In federal actions, “there’s been specific inclusion of gender identity for a while.”
