Professor NeJaime Cited in Sacramento Bee on Religious Exemption to LGBT Marriage Equality Law

June 24, 2016-- Professor Doug NeJaime was cited in the Sacramento Bee as well as various other new outlets, on testimony he gave on behalf of plaintiffs wishing to block a Mississippi legislation that would allow for a religious exemption in response to LGBT marriage equality law. The religious-exemption bill would allow someone to cite certain religious beliefs to recuse themselves from issuing marriage licenses to gay or lesbian couples.

The Sacramento Bee wrote:

NeJaime said the Mississippi legislation was "both narrower and broader" than bills considered in other states — narrower in that it lists specific religious beliefs that would be protected, and broader in that it applies to government employees, religious groups and private business people.
