Professor Schwartz Quoted by ABC News on Municipal Attorneys’ Troubling Pattern of Unethical Practices

June 30, 2016—Professor Joanna Schwartz was quoted by ABC News and various other news outlets addressing a Chicago incident in which a federal judge found that an attorney deliberately concealed important audio evidence in a civil trial involving alleged police misconduct. One review of court records nationwide found that municipal lawyers in big cities all over the country have revealed a similar pattern of troubling behavior. Professor Schwartz believes that City Hall attorneys are more concerned with deflecting bad publicity and preventing lawsuits than they are with exposing police misconduct.

"[For many attorneys representing a major city] revealing the truth... is not necessarily high on their list," said Professor Schwartz.
