Professor Schwartz Talks to Chicago Reporter on Fiscal Impact of New Technology to Track Police Misconduct

June 24, 2016— Professor Joanna Schwartz was quoted by the Chicago Reporter in an article addressing the potential fiscal impacts of a new program, called ClaimStat, that tracks allegations of police misconduct in cities and shares this information with the public. The program is currently being tested in New York.

 “You can’t reduce the impact [of settlements] until you better understand why the lawsuits are brought,” said Professor Schwartz, “paying more attention to the information in these [claims] is a first big step.”
