Professor Hecht of the Emmett Institute Quoted By Christian Science Monitor on Rising Threat of Climate Change to U.S. Military Bases

July 28, 2016—Professor Sean Hecht, co-executive director of the Emmett Institute on Climate Change and the Environment, was quoted in an article by The Christian Science Monitor addressing the rising threat of climate change that could leave some military bases partially underwater. The article cites a report presented by The United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change which predicts sea levels will rise between one and three feet by the end of the century putting military bases in low lying areas at risk.

“The military has a lot of credibility,” says Professor Hecht , “and as a traditionally conservative institution its response to climate change has the potential to open eyes to the dangers of sea level rise.”
