Professor Volokh Comments in U.S. News on Potential Costs of Defamation Lawsuits

September 9, 2016 – Professor Eugene Volokh commented in U.S. News & World Report on the potential costs of defamation lawsuits, in reference to the case of two high profile lawmakers – Representatives Rene Ellmers and Kevin McCarthy – who have not yet sued an independent reporter who accused them of having an affair, even though the accusations made were unsubstantiated.  The deadline for filing defamation lawsuits is fast approaching.      

"Suing for defamation is always dicey, even if you know you're in the right; the lawsuit itself just further amplifies the original accusations," said Professor Volokh.
