Professor Peter Aranella Quoted in a NY Times Article on Jury Verdict to Clear Derrick Rose of Liability in Rape Accusations

October 20, 2016—Professor emeritus and criminal law expert, Peter Aranella, was quoted in the New York Times in response to the civil verdict on the allegations against Knicks guard, Derrick Rose. Rose was accused of raping his ex-girlfriend, who was seeking $21.5 million from Rose. The jurors, who doubted the woman’s credibility and believed there was a lack of evidence, absolved Rose of any wrongdoing.

Professor Aranella says, “A civil verdict that exculpates Rose for the rape will make a future criminal prosecution highly unlikely unless the prosecutor uncovers new evidence of rape that was not presented to the civil jury.”
