Professor Raustiala Quoted on Transition of California Grizzly into Global Fashion Icon in Los Angeles Times and Numerous Other News Outlets

October 21, 2016—Professor Kal Raustiala was quoted in the Los Angeles Times and numerous other news outlets on how California’s grizzly bears came to be a global fashion icon, and whether the bear can be trademarked. Though the question of trademark restrictions initially emerged, given the fashion trade’s knock-off culture, and the difficulties inherent in chasing down and litigating against copycats, this question becomes all but moot.

“There isn’t an easy yes-or-no answer to the question of whether you can trademark the bear or something like that,” said Professor Raustiala.
