Associated Press Covers Eugene Volokh’s U.S. Senate Testimony on Free Speech on College Campuses

Professor Eugene Volokh was cited by the Associated Press during his testimony before a U.S. Senate committee at a hearing on free speech on college campuses. Given the number of high profile speaking engagements that have been cancelled in recent months, Universities have argued that certain speakers were anticipated to evoke violence and dangerous reactions. Volokh and others, however, claim that restricting speakers because of their potential influence goes against the idea of free speech. “The answer is to make sure they don’t create a disturbance and to threaten them with punishment, meaningful punishment, if they do create a disturbance.”
