Adam Winkler Writes for the L.A. Times on How Corporations are Winning ‘We the People’ Rights

Professor Adam Winkler wrote an opinion piece for the Los Angeles Times in which he argued that the effort by corporations and businesses to win more civil rights will hurt the public good.  Winkler pointed to the Masterpiece Cakeshop case currently before the U.S. Supreme Court, in which a bakery owner refused to make a cake for a gay couple getting married:  “If the court sides with Masterpiece Cakeshop, states like Colorado that believe that civic equality is only possible if businesses that serve the public are open to everyone will be hamstrung in their efforts,” wrote Winkler.

Winkler is the author of “We the Corporations: How American Businesses Won Their Civil Rights,” (W.W. Norton & Company, 2018).
