Professor Adam Winkler wrote an article for The New York Review of Books
on how former Louisiana governor Huey Long, a fiery populist known as “The Kingfish,” helped turn corporations into people. Winkler discusses how Long and the 2010 Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission
led corporations to win the same right as individuals to influence elections through the First Amendment. “According to a recent study, corporations and their trade groups are behind nearly half of all free-speech cases these days,” Winkler writes.
