Afro-Colombian Transitional and Reparative Justice: Territory, Gender, Racism, and Armed Conflict

Part of the Promise Institute for Human Rights' Reimagining Rights in the Americas Series Part of our series on Reimagining Rights in the Americas and in buildup to UCLA hosting the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights for their 186th Period of Working Sessions in March 2023, this discussion explores the important relationship between territory, gender, and armed conflict in Colombia.

In this virtual event, the panelists will address the material and symbolic conditions of Afro-Colombians today — looking specifically at how the armed conflict has impacted the lived realities of Afro-Colombians, the process of legal recognition and protection of Afro-Colombian territories, and how racist and patriarchal violence operated during the armed conflict.
