Compensation and Working Conditions

This course will help prepare students for tackling issues relating to both the workplace and the compensation of a range of employees.  The course will cover laws that both promote workplace safety (OSHA, CalOSHA, and protections against Workplace Violence) and address the needs of injured or ill employees (Workers' Compensation, related Disability insurance, and Paid Sick Leave).  The course will also review compensation requirements for non-exempt employees (a detailed review of the Wage and Hour laws) and exempt executives (the key elements of Executive Compensation.)  Students will review both the caselaw and the statutes and regulations which underlie each of these topics, how these laws are implemented in the workplace (including required training of employees), and the consequences of failing to meet relevant requirements.
