The Role of Public Interest Lawyering in Policy and Organizing Campaigns

Public Interest Law

This seminar course will focus on major organizing and policy campaigns and the role of community lawyers. A special emphasis will be on labor and immigrant rights organizing campaigns and the ways in which lawyers have been able to craft creative legal and policy strategies in response to these challenges. We will examine social justice issues from a number of perspectives, highlighting the many ways that public interest lawyers confront these problems. Additionally, the course delves into the ways in which public interest lawyers can better attune themselves to the client within the cause, understand the intersectionality within movements, care for themselves in a way that brings life and longevity to their careers, and empower the next generation.
