Entertainment Law, Technology & the Law

The video game industry is now the biggest industry in the entertainment sector.  This growth and success have been fueled even more by the pandemic, new devices, and new distribution systems that contribute to a myriad of new ways to play games.  Because of this quick evolution and growth, lawyers practicing in the space face unique issues that we will explore in this class.  Specific topics include: (a) special Intellectual Property considerations in video games, (b) Key video game industry contracts, (c) game monetization the future role of NFTs in video games, (d) privacy and data security in the video game industry, (e) the roles of gamers, fans, player communities, and issues surrounding user-generated content, and (f) the future role of video games in the Metaverse.
