Hello! My name is Serena Silk and I am a 2L at UCLA School of Law. I grew up in Lake Havasu City, Arizona before moving to Los Angeles to attend UCLA for undergrad, where I double majored in Psychology and American Indian Studies and minored in Public Affairs and Professional Writing. After graduating, I stayed on campus and worked as a full-time staff member for an academic department before deciding to pursue law school. By the time I graduate from UCLA Law, I will have been a Bruin for ten years - needless to say, I am a huge UCLA fan!

I chose UCLA Law because I was looking for a law school with a community-oriented environment that allowed me to pursue unique opportunities in public-interest and Native Nations law. During my 1L year, I was able to immerse myself in the Native legal field right away, and some of my favorite memories in law school so far have been attending multiple Federal Indian Law conferences with my classmates, mentors, and Native Nations professors. I have been surrounded by so many inspiring people over the last year, and have seen firsthand how friendly and supportive the UCLA Law community is.

At UCLA Law, I am specializing in both Native Nations Law and Critical Race Studies. I served as the 1L Representative and am now the Co-President of the Native American Law Students Association. I also serve as a staff member for the Indigenous Peoples’ Journal of Law, Culture, & Resistance, and volunteer for an Education Rights pro bono project. This past summer, I worked at the American Indian Law Center, and am excited to begin interning this fall at Garcia Hernández Sawhney as an Education Equity Leadership clerk.
